Poise Passion Tour Award

I remember being surprised to find out that pregnant women sometimes pee when they laugh or sneeze. I remember being even more surprised to find out that it's very common for it to continue after the pregnancy is over.

Gather a moms group together and have a glass or two of wine and you may get the scoop on this. Or maybe you won't because quite frankly it's probably not something that typically comes up in causal conversation. Because I believe in honest conversations on women's bodies without stigma, I was happy when Mom Central announced the Poise Passion Tour Award. Poise and the Women's Health Foundation are trying to get the word out that women do not need to be embarrassed to talk about this and they may seek help. They have given an award to Linda Michael for her frankness and strength for overcoming her struggle with incontience, bowel control, difficult sex, and constant pelvic pain. Lest, you think that Linda is unusual, 1 in 4 women suffer from incontinence. That's one person out of each of my moms group playgroups!

Linda's story, which can be see on video here, started when she gave birth to her 10 pound son very quickly. She ended up with 4th degree tears. I'm crossing my legs just thinking about that. After an uncomfortable recovery, she realized that things in that area just weren't quite the way they used to be. Everyone told her this just was what happened when you had a baby, so she went on to have a second one, figuring that eventually everything would eventually go back to normal. It didn't.

For 28 years she struggled with assorted ailments. She frequently discussed it with doctors whose attitudes ranged from unsympathetic to accusatory! Some criticized her for putting on too much weight during the pregnancy. One day Linda decided to make an appointment with a female urologist. It turns out that her pelvic bones are uneven from childbirth . She was prescribed a 13 week course of pelvic floor therapy, and was thrilled with the results.

Poise and Linda are working to help women get the help they need. Incontience does not need to be a taboo subject.

Snacktivate Review

Like most parents, I'm always on the lookout for healthy snacks for my kids. The problem is that healthy and tasty are not always synonymous to little kids. Trying to find a snack that is both nutritious and delicious is a struggle for me.

When Mom Central said that they were looking for bloggers to review Kellog's Snacktivate, I was happy to do so. I received two boxes of Frosted Mini-Shredded Wheat and a take-a-long cup with spoon. The bottom part of the cup can be placed in the freezer so that the snacks or cereal can be kept cool on the go. A recipe for cookies was also included.

I'll be the first to admit that cooking just isn't my thing, but this recipe was pretty easy. I also liked that I had all the ingredients on hand. I had to crush 60 pieces of cereal, but that was simple. As I was making these cookies, I thought to myself that they were very similar to peanut butter cookies except that there was cereal in them. Sure enough they tasted just like crunchy peanut butter cookies.

My kids really enjoyed them. I was pleased that they were getting fiber as well as protein. It worked well as a snack. Plus, it was nice that a single cookie was filling to them.

Hosting a playgroup or looking for a fun craft to do? Included was also a recipe to make Sassy Sun Pops. Basically you take the cookie dough from that same recipe, press in almonds and flax seeds, and add a lollipop type stick. Voila! You have totally cool cookies that look like flowers. And what kid doesn't love eating things off a stick.

These aren't the only recipes that the website offers. In fact there are 12 different healthy snack recipes broken down by season. There's also a lot of other info on nutrition and eating healthy. Be sure to check it out!

WonderFALL Review

I have to admit that once I had kids, the visions of family vacations I had previously envisioned suddenly disappeared. One of my friends makes the argument that you can change diapers here in MA or you can change them in Italy. While I absolutely agree with that argument, I also agree with another friend's argument that when you're a parent on vacation you do everything you would do at home without any of the tools you need. The end result is that my family and I try to go on vacations, but we try to make them as inclusive as possible. Sure I would love to go camping with my boys...when both of them are out of diapers. In the meantime flushing toilets are a must and, if a meal plan is thrown in, well that's just the dream vacation.

Hence I was intrigued when Mom Central announced the WonderFALL Blog Tour by Beaches Resorts. It does sound truly wonderful. They are running a special for the months of September and October where you get a bonus night if you book your vacation for 5-6 nights. You get 2 bonus nights if you book your vacation for at least 7 nights. That's right, bonus nights as in free nights! On top of it, you can combine this with other offers that provide up to 45% savings on the resort. Single parents can save up to $190 per night. Did I mention that this is all inclusive?

You also have your choice of the following places: Boscobel, Sandy Bay, Negril, and Turks and Caicos. The Family Package features Sesame Street characters including Gordon. There are a variety of activities and shows. Of course, not everyone is looking for a family vacation. They also offer Grandparents Packages, Family Reunions, Girlfriend Getaways and Weddings and Honeymoons.
