The Brillance of Slip 'n Slide

A while ago, my friend Suzanne and I were discussing the brilliance of Whamo, the company that makes Slip 'n Slip. Basically they took a tarp and convinced parents everywhere to buy it at a huge mark up. Sure now they have the water coming up in a few different spots, but again nothing that you couldn't do with some duct tape and a needle. Add some dish soap to the mixture and you're literally flying.

Of course as a kid I just had to have one these and I loved it. One year my brother and I even got one that was designed as a car wash where the kids were the "cars". It was with these loving memories that I was pretty psyched when my younger son (YS) got a Slip 'n Slide for a birthday present from a friend. Sad to say, I was probably more excited than him.

The fact of the matter is that I've never bought a cheap tarp to use as a Slip 'n Slide much less rolled one side, duct tape it and punch holes in it to feed the water stream through. As I watch my kids throw themselves down their new Slip 'n Slide I marvel about a few things. 1)Why is it the end of July and this is the first time we've had a chance to use it? 2) How can I come up with a brilliant idea like Whamo? 3)Since I've put dish soap on it and there's obviously water does it count as a bath for my kids?

I have the answer to #1 - because it was the summer that almost wasn't :P

Hopefully you'll be able to use it more then once before fall arrives.

It totally counts as a bath - hey, it's summer!

Yeah, it counts. By the way, have you tried it? I have great memories of Slip and Slide as a kid, but I went on one once as an adult and I swear it was TORTURE on my ribcage. You basically throw yourself at the ground. How do kids do it?

My kids have used their slip n slide maybe 3 times and 2 of those times it was questionable whether they should be participating in water play. I'm not sure what happened to summer these last 2 years but I don't care for it one bit.

    1. Climate change
    2. what was the question again?
    3. YES.

We actually used to use a big sheet of industrial plastic stuff when I was a kid. It was WAY better than the cheap and skinny slip n slides of today.

I always wanted a slip & slide, but thanks to Count Mockula's comment, I am a little fearful of using YS's. Not that you offered. But whatever.
