My Husband's Little Secret

Over the past few weeks, I've been giving the old heave ho to a lot of our junk valuable treasures. I've made some pretty good progress too. There is one area of our house though where I really need the Big Giraffe's help: our book cases. The two of us love books and love to hang on to things. I told the BG today that I knew it was hard, but he just had to buckle down and really look at all the items in the bookshelves. He needed to think about whether or not he had even looked at the item in the last year. He needed to consider whether he truly felt he would use the items again. Whether he truly felt that it was worth paying the storage money for that Celine Dion CD. Yes, I'm kidding about having to pay storage money for that one CD. No, I'm not kidding though that my husband owns one.

A. Elliot's Lesson Learned: My husband's musical tastes may be more eclectic than I realized before we got married, but I still believe that my heart will go on and on.

I was also surprised at some of the selections in my husband's CD library. No Celine, but still some that I would never have pegged him liking.

We haven't touched CD's in years - except to pull off for our MP3/IPods. In fact they are buried in a corner somewhere. I purged alot of juk this week as well - mostly stuff that has lived in boxes in our basement since we moved in 7 years ago. Now I have a big empty area - ready to fill up with new junk (stuff we haven't looked at in less time).

Books are a soft spot for us as well. In fact, in my next house (the one I'm building in my mind) we will have a library. Or at least one room with built in shelves. We have boxes of books in a closet upstairs (completely filling it) that I wish we could keep on shelves. There ar etimes I want to pull out a specific book but can't. Or to pull out and let Einey read. It took me an hour to find which bookshelf /nook/top of cabinet The Lightning Thief was hidden on the other day for her.

My husband still has a lot of his stuff at his parents' house (they have more room than we do, and I'm not arguing with not having to store it!). However, they are starting to go through their basement and attic, and every time my husband comes home from there, I learn a bit more about him...no Celine Dion CDs yet, but at this point, I'm not sure I'd be surprised!

My husband owns Debbie Gibson CD's....Celine Dion is nothing!

I chuckled at the lesson learned :)

It sounds like it went relatively smoothly...my husband is way overattached to "stuff" and gets very emotional!

I'm the one who can't let go. My husband would go Nordic all-white sleek if he could.

I am very impressed with all of your efforts.
