All of last week I didn't feel too great. I didn't feel horrible, but I felt like I was coming down with a cold and losing my voice. I figured it would just pass and I wasn't too worried about it. On Thursday I realized that I had had this for over a week, so I tried calling my doctor. The office's lunch hour had just ended, but they weren't picking up their phones yet. I tried calling a couple times and then gave up. On Friday I debated calling again. The only thing that got me calling was that it was going to be the weekend and I knew that if I felt worse I would be SOL in terms of seeing the doctor unless I wanted to take a trip to the ER. That was a definite no!
After YS's surgery I went in to see her. She said the same thing that the boys' pediatrician is always saying - if it lasts for more than a week it's probably bacterial. She told me I needed antibiotics. I groaned and said that was the exact reason why I had delayed coming in to see her. Antibiotics = yeast infection. Gross, but true. She wrote me a prescription for Z-pack (I think "vaginally friendly" was the term she used) and told me to eat yogurt every day which I already do.
After I took the intial two antibiotics, I took a nap while the Big Giraffe managed the zoo. I woke up and felt about a million times better. Yes, I am the biggest idiot. I can't believe that I almost didn't go see the doctor. Just in case you're dying to know, the yogurt seems to be working. I'm sure you're relieved! It was a win-win situation for me. The sad thing is, if it were the boys, I would have had them at the doctor's without a second thought.
A. Elliot's Lesson Learned: Don't forget to take care of yourself!
Isn't it true that we never take care of ourselves? But then the medical system makes it much harder to. I never have a problem getting appointments for the kids but for us? Months, baby, moths.
I love your blog. It is like you were living at my house! FYI...our company is for busy moms...if you send us an e-mail or make a phone call, we would have made your doctor's appointment for you. It would fall under our "Would You Lend Me a Hand" service.
Keep up the great posts. You have a loyal reader here!

For those of us who didn't get an instruction manual with our babies and for whom parenting hasn't always gone as planned. On a more serious note this blog is about supporting a woman's ability to make her own choices about parenting including the choice, for whatever reason, to bottle feed her babies formula.
