Happy Birthday YS

Dear YS,
A year ago today I gave birth to my summer solstice baby: you. Way back the November before, I was told my c-section would be June 21. Then the first week of June my ob/gyn found out he had to have surgery so my c-section was scheduled for June 22 with another doctor. The Big Giraffe and I like to joke that you never got the memo because you were born on the morning of June 21. Although I had back labor, once I went in for the c-section everything was smooth sailing (with the exception of the theft of my brand-new sandals during your birth).

I have to admit that when I heard you for the first time, I thought you were going to give me a run for my money. You were so loud in the surgery room. I think you were just mad that your supply of cheese fries and chocolate milkshakes was cut off. You looked similar to OS, but with a different nose and a ton of dark hair. Although I'm sure that we'll clash later on many things, for right now you are incredibly laid back and have been since you were about two hours old. No matter what's going on, you are calm and happy. When you had pneumonia, the ER doctor told me you couldn't possibly be sick because you were smiling and laughing. The x-rays proved him wrong.

You are incredible. You're warm and loving and incredibly smart ( no, this does not mean I like it when you unclip your high chair tray and throw it on the floor to announce the end of the meal.) When I hold you I feel centered. Happy 1st birthday, Babykins.

PS Just so you can't claim that your older brother is first at everything, you are the first of my offspring to enjoy a birthday post.
