The first few years that the Big Giraffe and I were married, we had a tendency to keep basically every box that came into our house. In all fairness, at the time our town didn't recycle cardboard so the thought was that we would wait until we had a big collection and then take it to the cardboard recycling dumpster in town. We fulfilled our goal, but we did it too well. The Big Giraffe and I slept well at night comforted by the thought that should there ever be a cardboard crisis, we would retire comfortably. After many years of fighting over empty boxes in the basement, a couple years ago the Big Giraffe and I hired a garbage collection guy to take all of them away. I kid you not that this was a hot topic in marriage counseling. We were so amazed with how easy it was, that we wondered why we hadn't thought to do that years ago. (At least I did; when I commented to the Big Giraffe that I had wondered a lot about it, he gave me a blank look.)
Recently we realized that we were starting to be in a similar situation. Not to mention the fact that we had all these yard clippings that we needed to dispose of. A call was put into the company that I thought we had used in the past. It turns out it wasn't the same company, but the guy was great. He agreed to pick up all the items yesterday. However, his fiance went into false labor yesterday so by the time he got back from the hospital, he couldn't do the pickup. It turned out for the best. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to us, we had a water in our basement that ruined a bunch of items (aka garbage because they were things we needed to get rid of.)
Fortunately he was able to come later on today. The Big Giraffe and my mom were able to cut down more "vine trees" which was fantastic (At the same time, my dad and our neighbor fixed the leaky pipes causing the water problem and resolved some other plumbing issues. Oh the horror that my neighbor saw my messy basement!) The guy did an amazing job and even raked up the yard afterwards. Suzanne and hubby treated us to carryout from Vinny T's. We invited the guy to join us for dinner. With an 8 month pregnant fiancee at home cooking, I think he made the wiser choice by passing on our offer.
We had a very enjoyable dinner with a broad array of conversation topics. The surprise revelation of the evening came when I learned that when our state representative was running unopposed during the last election, the Big Giraffe wrote in the name of a friend of ours.

That sounds like me. "I'll use this box for something!" And I never do.
