Many weeks ago, I was reading Gunfighter's blog, A View From Here and he was doing an interview. He invited anyone else who wanted to be interviewed to let him know. I first found his blog when he was Suzanne's partner in the blog exchange a while back, and I have enjoyed reading him since then. Plus, I thought an interview sounded like a lot of fun. I have to admit that between the yard sale and KY, I blanked on it. I am very excited now to answer his questions. Definitely stop by and check his blog out.
1. You have two blogs and contribute to a third. Tell us about them... then tell us how you make the time, and still have time for your family.
Yes, it is true that I have two blogs, but I like to think of Crafts for the Clueless as a very erratically maintained "subblog". Crafts for the Clueless came about when my husband, boys and I were in Freeport ME last fall. I was impressed with all the pretty leaves and I mentioned that I might consider ironing them between wax paper if my older son (OS) wanted to. My husband looked at me like I were crazy and then asked me to clarify. I explained how I had done this craft as a kid and that the nice thing about it was that it met my criteria for a fun craft (meaning easy with little mess). This led me to explain how I choose crafts or rather why I don't like any crafts found in parenting magazines. Crafts for the Clueless was born. People Under the Stairmasters is a really fun blog that Suzanne started that is about observing strange behaviors at the gym. Basically whenever a contributor to the blog has a humorous story about people at the gym, they post it. We also take reader contributions.
2. Where do you live? Have you always lived there? If so, were/are your parents from there, too. Do you like where you live?
Currently I live in Central MA. Ironically even though I'm from Chicago, like both of my parents, I was born and lived in MA until I was 2.5. My dad was in the military, and he was stationed out here. We're very happy where we live. Of course we would like to be closer to family, but we've made some great friends out here.
3. What are you passionate about besides your family?
I'm very passionate about animals. Today our playgroup went to a petting farm not too far from where we live. I was in my element. I was right in the goat pen with all the goats. Yes, it probably was a little strange that I seemed to enjoy being in there much more than any of the kids (hmmm...bad choice of words, I mean children.) Women's rights are also very important to me. I am a feminist.
4. Tell us about a book that changed your life? When did you read it, and how often do you think of it, even now?
This is hard one. I read all the time. I have a hard time falling asleep at night unless I read for at least 10 minutes. I've read a lot of really great books and a lot of complete junk, but sometimes even the fluff has it's value. When I was a kid, I always felt like the character Sally in Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself by Judy Blume was like me. I would have these elaborate day dreams, theories, etc. just like she does. My favorite book for a while now has been the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Every time I read it, I'm just amazed by the attention to detail. I feel like I learn something new about it every time I read it.
5. Do you have any tattoos? If not, why not? If so, where are they and what do you have. If you WERE to get a tattoo, what would you get, where would you put it, and why?
No, I don't have any tattoos. A while ago I was talking with someone who was thinking of getting small tattoos to represent each of her kids. I have two c-section scars that represent my two kids. Part of me thinks I would get the tattoo on my eyelid so that it would only be visible when I wanted it to be. It could be a tattoo of a winking eye. That would be a great conversation starter!
6. What is your ultimate comfort food?
Definitely Friendly's Loaded Waffle Cheese Fries. They're absolutely disgusting and it's fake cheese all the way, but when I'm in the mood for them, nothing else satisfies. I developed this love for them when I was pregnant with my younger son. There was something just so satisfying about them particularly when combined with a chocolate milkshake. My husband was initially revolted, but he quickly saw the light or I should say ate a fry and was convinced. Rats! I'm starting to develop a craving just thinking about them.
If anyone would like to be interviewed, just let me know.
Professional Mom of two cats, a dog, an ant farm, and oh yeah...two boys: a 6 year old and a 3 year old. Also found in my house is my husband who is known on this blog as The Big Giraffe.
For those of us who didn't get an instruction manual with our babies and for whom parenting hasn't always gone as planned. On a more serious note this blog is about supporting a woman's ability to make her own choices about parenting including the choice, for whatever reason, to bottle feed her babies formula.
I love how you describe the c-section mementos. Oh, that cracked me up.
