Heartbreak

Since my younger son (YS) doesn't seem to care about my opinion, even at the tender age of almost 10 months, I never know what to expect in the morning. On several mornings, he demands a bottle before breakfast, while on some mornings he will not touch his bottle until after he has eaten. Since he tends to drink more on an empty stomach and his pediatrician wants him to drink a minimum of 16 ounces a day, it usually works out better when he has his bottle first.

I tend to be a little groggy in the morning (I think the Big Giraffe might use a different choice of words) so sometimes I'll watch the Today show while YS is taking his bottle. Yeah, yeah I know my 10 month old shouldn't be watching TV. That point aside, usually I spend between 5 and 10 minutes catching up on the latest fad or the biggest news story, and then I turn the TV off so that we join OS (who is ravenous when he wakes up) for breakfast.

Today was one of those days. The Today Show was covering the tragedy at Virgina Tech. It was heartbreaking. As I held my baby and watched the horrific scenes, all I could think was that those students (both those who were unharmed and those who were) were once held by their parents just like I was holding YS. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for them or for their parents. I wish all of the victims and their families peace and understanding.
