The Chocolate Buffet

My husband (the Big Giraffe), our older son (OS), and our younger son (YS) had their first Music Together class today. I have done a few sessions of Music Together with OS and one session with both boys, but this is the first time that they've taken any class with just their dad. I have to admit I was a little nervous for the Big Giraffe. I have found that there seems to be an unusual amount of public singing in parent and kid classes. Okay, so I obviously shouldn't be too surprised about that in a class that has the word "music" in its title, but that doesn't explain the public singing required in the library lapsit that I did for 4 weeks with OS when he was a newborn. However, the Big Giraffe loves to sing and dance and unlike me cannot add "can imitate a wounded animal when singing in public" to his resume (or at least can't add that he can do that accidentally). No one was going to be sitting in the parking lot wondering what an injured walrus was doing inside the neighboring town's Episcopal Church. The Big Giraffe and the two little giraffes headed out the door to their class. On the way out my husband gave me a suspicious look and questioned what motives I had for being so extremely helpful, hey I'm always helpful!,. After class they were headed off to an egg hunt at a friend's house where not only did OS have a fantastic time doing the actual hunt, but he also dyed 6 Easter eggs (technically he dyed 7, but 1 was part of the "overflow pool")!

"And what might you be doing?", you might ask. Did I have ulterior motives? I take the 5th! I was going to a chocolate buffet!!! My playgroup has 5 moms in it. Two of them are pregnant so we other three treated them to a chocolate buffet in Boston. I have to say it was fabulous. The company was just absolutely great, and the desserts were just amazing. One of the moms had been there before, so she had a "game plan" for us to follow. We started out at the crepes station. You got to select ingredients (strawberries, mixed berries, coconut, dark chocolate bits etc.) to put in a made-to-order crepe that was made out of chocolate dough. There was a special glaze that you could drizzle on it after it was made. It was delicious!

The crepes were followed by a methodical investigation of the different tables to see what our options were. And what were those options? Pretty much limitless. There was a milk chocolate table, a dark chocolate table, and a white chococolate table filled with the corresponding desserts. There was also a cookie table, a chocolate sandwich table, a fondue table that had a chocolate fondue fountain and then white, milk and dark chocolate fondue that you could take back to your table for dipping all sorts of fruits, pretzels etc. There was also a chocolate bread pudding station and a make your own doughnut station (that was my personal favorite.) Apparently you could also get different fun chocolate drinks, but we stuck with the tea and coffee that came with the "meal". Betty made sure that no uneaten food on her plate was thrown out, and as such may have provided a few treats for later.

After all that sugar, I came home and my husband and I took the boys to see the Easter Bunny. That was particularly exciting because we got to see that we were not the only parents who had waited until the very last minute (4:30 pm when the Easter Bunny was scheduled to head out to start his "delivery run" at 5 pm.) However, even though we found many like-minded people, the wait was under 10 minutes (which thus confirmed that we are indeed lazy parents.) The wait was under 10 minutes. Good things do indeed happen to those who wait until the last minute. YS who normally has stranger anxiety was all smiles. OS wasn't too impressed.

After dinner and putting the boys to bed, I headed out to the Y to swim. All that sugar and caffeine combined with the fact that Toto's Africa came on full blast when I hit the water (I have a waterproof iPod case made for swimming) made me swim back and forth like crazy. The pool was unusually crowded for a Saturday night. I guess a lot of people ate at the chocolate buffet...or they plan to do the equivalent tomorrow with Easter candy. Have a great Easter to those of you who celebrate it!

Where did you go? I seem to think you live near me and there is a chocolate buffet I have heard about but never been.

Also, waterproof ipod case, that is the coolest thing I have heard about in a long time. What about the ear phones?

I added a link to you on my site, finally.

I've walked by that hotel a million times and NEVER KNEW ABOUT THE CHOCOLATE!! Figures it would take a girl from your neck of the woods to let me in on the secret.

Yes, that waterproof iPod just sounds too cool.
