My Gross Day

This morning I woke up with the big plan to take the boys to my kid friendly book club. I had read the book, and I was looking forward to discussing it. My younger son (YS)was particularly hungry. I wasn't sure if it was because he was adjusting back to MA time (although only an hour off from Chicago, I have found that one hour can really take a toll on little kids)or if he was going through a growth spurt. He inhaled 8 ounces of formula, a container of yogurt with cereal and prunes. He normally eats that much for breakfast, but he doesn't normally eat it so fast. After he was finished I took him out of his high chair and brought both boys upstairs to brush their teeth. Just as we were passing his brother's bed, YS threw up everywhere. It was a gigantic amount. It was on OS's bed, and specifically on a giant comforter from the guest room that takes forever to dry when washed. Also, we hardly have any carpeting in our house, but that was one of the few places we do have it. We will be steam cleaning the rug tomorrow. Then YS happily played with his feet while I cleaned up the mess.

I called the book club hostess and told her that we wouldn't be coming. The rest of the morning was pretty uneventful. We didn't have anymore unexpected encounters with our breakfasts thankfully. Then lunch time occurred. OS was monkeying around with his cup of milk. I very calmly told him that I was concerned that he was going to knock it over. He assured me that the cup of milk was fine. I got up to go into the kitchen, and I heard a crash followed by OS exclaiming that there was a mess on the floor. I'm sure there's an ancient proverb out there that says from one drop of milk, comes many. It was dripping off of everything. Fortunately, OS was responsible for cleaning up that mess. I gave him a few dish towels and he took care of it. Of course I still had to wash the gross towels.

YS finished eating around that time and promptly proceeded to throw up on his high chair tray. OS clamored for more milk at that exact moment. Uggh! After cleaning up yet another mess and changing yet another outfit, I put both boys down for naps. Fortunately, OS actually slept, which is a rare occurrence during his quiet time these days. Unfortunately he slept so deeply that he peed all over himself and his sheets. Fabulous! Yet another mess to clean up.

We finished off the day with OS spilling the dog's water dish everywhere. Needless to say, I'm tired.

A. Elliot's Lesson Learned: When it rains, it pours; from one drop of milk comes many; he who throws up once will probably throw up again.
