The Judgements

My older son (OS) is three years old and I can't believe how quickly time has gone by. Particularly when I look at my younger son (YS) who's 6 months old, I'm shocked that before I know it YS will be 3. I also have to say that 3 is a really fun age. OS is able to play simple games like Memory, and he can somewhat tell me about his day, although sometimes what he wished happened becomes part of the story as if it really did happen. So 3 is a great age if you can ignore the temper tantrums and the judgements. Judgements? Yes, that's right my 3 year old has started to judge me. Just today he looked, do I dare say it, annoyed, because we had run out of bread, had no yogurt (please, he's been off his yogurt kick now for about 2 months) and we didn't have any raisins (he's probably had about a dozen little boxes in his whole life.) While I was tempted to say "when you're an adult you can buy all the raisins you want..." I decided against it because 1) I would sound just like my mom! 2) He's only 3. Instead I gave him some soup. That's the great thing about 3: they're easily distracted and very forgiving.

A. Elliot's Lesson Learned: The teenage years start at 3 not 13.

At 13, they are not so easily distracted or forgiving! I am sure that you will handle it very well, though. Ten years does seem like a long time from now, but I know how much time flies. Craziness.

I clicked in from Suzanne's and feel the urge to say "Awesome!" That you didn't say it.

People snap at and dis their kids all the time, then wonder why those same kids don't want to talk/share/open up with them once they get older.

I'm thinking you won't be having that problem to any great extent. To some extent is probably (hopefully?) inevitable with a Freethinking kiddo. :)

I don't remember saying anything like that. Oh well, early alzheimers must be kicking in.
