This evening the boys and I met with a friend and her 5 year old daughter, "Galleria" for dinner. Afterwards we went over to her house so that my older son (OS) who's 3 and Galleria could play. After playing with her new Polly Pockets toys and her chalkboard, Galleria decided that it would be fun to put on her Cheetah Girls 2 CD and give a dance performance. Her mom, OS and I sat on chairs in the room. She turned the lights off, stood on the kids table and aimed a flashlight on herself. Then she proceeded to pretend she was "Galleria" from the Cheetah Girls, who apparently do short videos on the Disney Channel, and give a concert. At one point she wanted OS to run around the table waving his arms while she was dancing. OS was too busy playing with her Little Mermaid doll/flashlight and wanted no part of it. However, later on he decided that it would be fun to jump up and down in place.
I have to say I was very impressed with Galleria's moves. She's a much better dancer than I am. And while she was able to brush her hair back with grace while singing, just like Galleria does on the video, OS hopped up and down just like a kangaroo and thought he was fabulous. It's funny because at first I was surprised by how the music sounded. I don't know why, because I've heard so many parents complain how sexualized kids things are today. I remember that I loved to put on concerts and dance while pretending to sing with a microphone when I was little. I wanted to look all sophisticated too. In fact as she was telling us that Galleria was the most beautiful name in the whole world, her mom and I tried not to laugh. Particularly when she first said the name, I thought she said her name was diarrhea because I only caught the "rhea" part of it. I thought that if I were 5, I probably would have renamed myself Galleria. In the meantime if I find OS standing on the table tomorrow and telling me that everything is "cheetahlicious" he and I are going to have to have a talk.
